Adam Murphy Email

After researching different artists I came across Adam Murphy and started to read some of his comics which are found within his site. I like the style in which he uses therefore I decided to contact him asking similar questions as this would allow me to compare answers and look for any different advice.

Stephen McCranie Email

I also contacted Stephen McCranie after looking after several different pieces of his work on the internet such as looking at his website dedicated to online comics, http://doodlealley.com and reading one of his books, Mal and Chad.I asked similar questions to see if I got a different responses. After Stephens response I replied and we agreed that when I produce some pages of comics I will send these to him for his advice.

Scamps Of Others

To get a better understanding of comic covers I decided to research both independent and mainstream comic covers. This allows me to understand the concept and the layout when designing my own cover for the comic and this will be shown in my own scamps. I decided to copy both independent and mainstream comic covers as this allows me to compare the difference between the two genre.

Similar Artefacts

Using pinterest allowed me to gather a variety of similar artefacts which I could relate to when producing the comic. The collection of similar artefacts includes both examples of comic strips from existing comics and the front covers. Gathering both covers and comic strips allows me view other artists style which I can relate to when producing my own comic, as well as gathering both these helps when designing the front cover and the overall comic pages.

Aspect to Aspect

As part of an experiment I tried the aspect to aspect technique which would allow me to further experiment with different mediums and techniques. As my comic would be a autobiographical comic I decided to use images which could reflect a personal story line, e.g. travelling to the different places which can be found within this experiment.

To start the aspect to aspect I began by creating a simple outline with a fine liner of each of the photographs. This would act as the first layer when combining the different layers within Photoshop.

This shows the second version of the aspect to aspect which involves creating another outline, however this time it is more detailed especially in terms of line work. This would act as the second layer in Photoshop which will overlay the first version.

This is the third and final outline of the aspect to aspect and due to the amount of detail I decided to use a sharpie rather than a fine liner. This was less time consuming and allowed me to add the right amount of tones compared to using a fine liner.

This shows all the layers have been combined together within Photoshop by multiplying the layers so that each layer is still visible.

Primary Research

The key to this unit is to research thoroughly the different comics, comic artists, techniques and the factors which contributes to comics. Therefore as I have already chosen to produce a autobiographical comic I decided to purchase a range of comics so that I could look at a variety of different comics. This can be seen within the presentation below.

Facts

To conclude some of the research I decided to make a mini
